4 golden rules for a great man-dog-friendship

Dogs are neither toys nor cuddly animals. If you take that into account, you have already laid the foundation for a harmonious human-dog friendship. With a loving but consistent dog training you also show your four-legged friend that you are a reliable partner. This is how your dog learns that he can trust you.

For a wonderful dog-and-dog friendship, it is helpful if you put yourself in your quadruped from time to time. In this way, you can better understand how your own behavior arrives.

1. Understand the dogs correctly

A dog perceives its environment quite differently than a human. While humans rely primarily on their sense of sight, in dogs sense of smell, hearing and sense of touch are more pronounced. In addition, a dog communicates differently than a human - he focuses primarily on the body language. For dog training, it is therefore important that you do not confuse your dog with unclear signals.

Choose a set of unique basic commands to teach your dog from an early age and be patient. The human-dog-friendship could be torn if your four-legged friend does not understand what you want from him, and you may also punish or yell at him for this lack of understanding.

2. Trust between man and dog

If you succeed in keeping calm, the dog will trust you. He knows that he can rely on you at all times and that he finds security and security with you. Basically, the friendship between man and dog hardly differs from the friendship between two people. So always stay clear, unambiguous and consistent - but fair. The four-legged friend usually listens to you automatically, if he trusts you. After all, he does not doubt that you know what's good for him.

3. Friendship needs respect

Just as important as understanding and trust is respect in human-dog-friendship. These three things overlap; Respect requires understanding and generates trust. Never surprise your dog with your affection and do not force him to cuddle or play when he's not ready. The behavior of the dog tells you whether he is just in cuddling and playful mood - or not. If he takes a nap or is busy with something, leave him alone. He'll come back to you if he wants.

For humans, it is not always understandable, which arouses the interest of dogs. Maybe he has just discovered an exciting smell that he wants to explore. Let your dog be a dog. If you have children, it is especially important to teach them this rule. Because the little ones have yet to learn that the friendly Wuschel is a living thing and neither a toy nor a cuddly toy. Explain this to your children, however, lovingly and clearly, the little ones learn a lesson in life in terms of empathy, compassion and friendship.

4. Joint ventures

Finally, the fun between man and dog must not be neglected. Joint ventures and experiences strengthen the friendship. Take long, exciting walks and choose a different route from time to time. At the dog playground, your four-legged friend also gets to know their fellow species and when playing with their master or mistress, the relationship can be strengthened.
